I will stay in the party: Munde

Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde who send his resignation following unhapiness over Maharastra's new BJP leadership had said thath he would stay with the party.

"I have been with the BJP for the last 30 years and I will stay in the party ", said Munde. He added saying that he have never thought of joining any other platform and would never think so.

"I will place my grievances before the party high command. I will respect whatever decision they take", informed the leader. Meanwhile BJP top leadership is hoding discussions with Munde in an effort to pacify the leader on the matter.

Medicos call off strike

The week long indefenite strike called on by resident doctors and medical students in Maharastra has been called off on Sunday.

The decision to withdraw the strike came after assurance from the Maharashtra government that the demands put by the medicos would be met.

The student representatives met with the Medical Education authorities who promised to meet their demands inclding the increase in seats for the post graduate courses.

Gopinath Munde resigns

Senior BJP leader and party's general secretary Gopinath Munde on Sunday resigned from his posts.

"I have resigned from all posts of the party. There is lack of democracy in the party. I would like to works as an ordinary party worker", informed Mude. The move is seen as an after effect of the party's appointment of Madhu Chavan as the new BJP President of Mumbai unit.

Munde had sent his resignation to BJP chief Rajnath Singh on his decision to quit from the post. However BJP leadership refused to accept his resignation and is trying to convince the leader to come in terms on the issue.

Tendulkar to miss Mumbai's IPL opener

Indian cricketer and Mumbai icon player Sachin Tendulkar is likely to miss Mumbai Indian's first opener in the IPL match due to injury.

Tendulkar who is also leading the team Mumbai Indians has said that he would decide whether to play or not on Sunday.

The master batsman was being paired with Sri Lanka's Jayasuriya as the opening partner but fans have to wait for a while, if Tendulkar pts not to play on Sunday when Mumbai Indians will take obn Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Striking docs face axe

The striking resident doctors and interns in Maharashtra are in
trouble with one of the government medical college taking stern
against the agitating students.

The agitation has been on for the past few days in protest to reduced
number of seats for PG courses in the various govt colleges in the
State.

Lately Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) has terminated the
services of 92 doctors who are on strike. College authorities has even
cancelled the registration of the doctors and asked them to vacate
their hostel rooms immediately.

Angry Jaya stages walk out

After being refused permission to raise the issue of anti-north Indians campaign in Maharashtra, Samajwadi party MP Jaya Bachchan staged a walk out from Rajya Sabha.

The walkout came as Shiv Sena MP Manohar Joshi remarked that there was no new anti-migrant drive in Maharastra to which Jaya wanted to respond.

But the speaker did not allow any further discussions on the issue. This angered Jaya who immediately walked out from the House along with party MPs.

Jr Medicos on strike

In an effort to raise their demand for increased seats for post graduate courses, medical college students and interns from government medical colleges are going ahead with an indefenite strike in Maharastra from today onwards.

They will be also getting support from resident doctors and teachers who too would join the strike from Wednesday.

The students are seeking a rise in the number of seats which were cut down from from 1,900 in 2001 to 653 in 2007.

MNS demands 80pc job quota for locals

In another move to woo Marathi people, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has sought 80 pc reservation for jobs in private sector firms for local Maharastrians. The group even threatened saying that it would kick off a stir if the industries did not follow this.

However many industries are not ready to accept this saying the proposed move would inturn violate the fundamental rights of Indians.

"We oppose any such move since it violates the fundamental rights of Indian citizens to stay anywhere in the country and practice the vocation they want," stated FICCI Chief.

Maharastra CM under Cong review

The Congress High command is keeping a watchful eye on the performance of the Maharastra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Though the review of his performance has been said as an in-house exercise, there are speculations that this could be in wake of the leadership issues within the congress leaders.

The party high command has also set up a 3 member panel of Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and A K Antony, and Political Adviser to Congress president Ahmed Patel to review on his performance which will start its worksoon after the Budget Session of the Maharashtra Assembly.

Amitabh superstar of whole country: Thackerey

Soon after the remarks against Bachchan in its party journal, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray took a different turn on his views on the super star.

Thackeray in the journal's editorial has come praising the actor regardless of whatever the aricle had said about him.

'The Amitabh is not just star of one particular state, but the superstar of the whole country. Hence it is improper to drag him into needless controversy of regionalism,' said Thackeray in the editorial.

After drawing criticism for his favourism for native state Uttar Pradesh, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has come forward speaking for Maharastra.

"Maharashtra has given me a lot. It has given me house, my wife... My association with Maharashtra goes back to over 40 years," Bachchan told during an interview.

He also spoke in Marathi language and said that saying he holds them close to his heart.

Mumbai girl Simran Kaur is Miss India Universe

22 year old Mumbai girl, Simran Kaur Mundi was crowned as the Miss India Universe 2008 on Saturday night's function held in at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai.

Parvathy Omanakuttam of Kerala a student from Mumbai won the Miss India World crown while Harshita Saxena of Goa was declared Miss India Earth. The winners of the beauty paegant were selected from among 28 finalists who were judged by eminent personalities including those from the film and fashion industry.

The winners would now contest for the international beauty paegants during the year.

Mumbai blasts: SC stays death sentence

The death sentence awarded to Zakir Hussain Noor Mohammed in connection with his involvment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts has been put on hold by the Supreme Court.

This is in view with his appeal to the SC following TADA court's judgement. He was sentenced to death by the Mumbai TADA court for alleged conspiracy in the serial blasts thath rocked Mumbai in March of 1993.

As many as 123 people were accused in the case of which 12 were awarded death penalty.

Of those convicted include Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt whose petition is still pending with SC.

BoM signs up with ECGC

Bank of Maharastra (BoM) which has the largest network of branches by any Public sector bank in the state of Maharashtra has tied up with Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) of India to promote the distribution of ECGC's insurance products.

The bank will market export credit insurance products of ECGC through its branches. The agreement regarding this was signed between the Chairman and MD's of both firms.

The new agreement will provide insurance protection against payment risks under various types of ECGC policies at Bank's branches. ECGC would shortly start its services in the domestic credit inurance sector, enabling exporters to insure their domestic receivables, said the company's release.

Raj criticise BJP leaders

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray defended his agitation against North Indians saying that it was lawful.

Justifying his action, he indicated that every political party has indulged in political violence and murder at some time or the other.

In his open letter to Marathi newspaper Lokstta, the MNS chief also criticised the BJP leaders for being hypocrite. 'L K Advani criticised my comments as unconstitutional. Did he feel the same way when he launched his rath yatra? Why aren't similar concerns being raised against Narendra Modi in Gujarat?'asked Raj in his letter.

MNS to help Marathis get jobs

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is all set to woo the Marathi people with offers to help with job oppurtunities for trained Marathi workers.

The latest violence following the anti- north Indian campaign by the party had certainly created many vacancies in the production industries of Nashik with many non Marathis leaving the State.

The party units had even put an advertisement in media asking local Marathis who had trained in jobs like fitting, tool making, welding, electrical fitting and carpentry to register their names with the MNS office. Many migrant workers from UP and Bihar had left the state following threats from MNS activists.

Mumbai gets Jayasurya, Harbajan, Pollock

The Mukesh Ambani owned Mumbai franchise has won some interesting bids on Wednesdays auction for IPL cricket players.

Mumbai's top winning bid was Srilankan player Sanath Jayasuriya who was picked by Team Mumbai at $975,000.

Mumbai also won Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh who was purchased for $850,000, Robin Uthappa for $800,000.

Other international player for Mumbai was Shaun Pollock of South Africa who was picked for $550,000.

Mumbai has top batsman Sachin Tendulkar as its icon player.

Govt gets NHRC notice on recent attacks

Maharastra government was at the recieving end with the National Human Rights Commission sending notice to the government over the recent attacks on the North Indians in the State.

Vilasrao Deshmukh government was criticised for the violence that took place as an aftermath of verbal assault by the MNS chief.

MNS activists has attacked the Hindi speaking people and the subsequent violence had forced many migrants to rush back to their homes. The MNS chief was arrested and later released on bail.

HC puts on hold extension to chief officials

The Bombay High Court has put on hold the government's decision on the three-month extension granted to Maharashtra DGP Dr PS Pasricha and Mumbai's commissioner Mr DN Jadhav.

The judges set aside the order saying that the Centre's November 30, 2007 orders granting these senior officers extension, was not "reasoned, rational and are also not in the larger public interest."

These officials service tenure was to expire on February 29, 2008 after the 3 month extension.

Raj Thackerey granted bail after arrest

It was a day of high drama in Maharastra. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray who was arrested in Mumbai on Wednesday evening was released on bail a few hours after the arrest.

Amid tight police cover, Raj was arrested for inciting violence following his remarks over the North Indians.

Samajadi Party leader Abu Azmi also was also arrested on similar grounds who too was granted bail.

Soon after the arrest heavy violence were reported from various parts of Maharastra with Raj supporters burning trucks and buses across the state.

Raj was granted bail for a bond of Rs 15000. The leader also has appealed for peace in view of the upcoming examinations.

Baba Amte passes away

Renowned social worker and moral leader Baba Amte passed away in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra on Saturday morning at 4:15 am. He was suffering from blood cancer.

Baba who was a great follower of Gandhihas always practised Gandhism throughout his life. He was deeply engaged with care and rehabilitation of leprosy victims. His community development project at Anandwan is well known to all.

He was also involved with the Narmada Bacho Andolan and worked for wildlife preservation. Baba Amte is survived by 2 sons and both are engaged with active social work.

Petition against Raj in Bombay HC

A petiton seeking action against the MNS leader Raj Thackerey has been filed in the Bombay High Court today.

The public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a Mumbai-based businessmen pleaded for a CBI probe into the whole incident. It also demanded a ban on the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena referring to Raj's remarks directed against the North Indians.

As an aftermath of the MNS chief's statements there were violent attacks on the people from Bihar and UP and also on people belonging to other parts of North India.

A similar PIL was also filed in the Supreme Court earlier on Thursday.

IPL finals in Mumbai

Mumbai will host the major events of the BCCI formed Indian Premier League(IPL) matches including the semifinals and finals.

The Twenty20 competition which is scheduled to start in April 18th will last for 6 weeks.

The opening match will be played at Bangalore. The prize money for the league will be around Rs 13 crore (US $3million).

The final and the two semi-finals, would be held in Mumbai. "The final will be on June 1 and the semi finals on May 30 and 31, all in Mumbai. We have the option of hosting these matches either at the CCI or D Y Patil stadium (in Navi Mumbai). I guess they will choose CCI," said IPL Chairman Lalit Modi.

Bachchan's house on high alert

In the wake of clashes between the MNS and Samajwadi Party (SP) supporters, security has been heightened at actor Amitabh Bachchan's residence.

Bachchan's house 'Prateeksha' in Juhu, Mumbai was already put on alert following the MNS chief verbal attack on the superstar calling him a loyalist of Uttar Pradesh rather than that of Maharashtra. His other home in Mumbai is also under security cover.

There were also reports of attack on some theatres screening Bhojpuri films and attacks on North Indian taxi drivers and vendors during Sunday's violence between MNS and SP activists.

With vilolence turning ugly, Centre had also asked the state government to take immediate steps to maintain law and order in the State. Mumbai was also put on high alert after incidents of violence, however there are no fresh incidents of attack.

Jaya Bachchan takes on MNS Chief

Soon after MNS Chief's criticism on Amitabh Bachchan, his wife and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan has responded with strong words against the leader.

The MNS Chief recently has alleged that the megastar was not doing enough for Maharastra. He said Bachchan was loyal only to his native Uttar Pradesh despite being a resident of Maharastra.

Coming hard on the leader, Jaya even remarked that they were ready to start a school in Aishwarya's name, if the MNS leader was willing to provide the land in Maharastra. The Bachchan family recently opened a school in daughter in law Aishwarya's name at Barabanki in UP.
