'Slumdog' kids to get flats
Wednesday 25 February 2009
The Oscar winning movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' may have helped the slum kids who had performed in the movie to earn a flat of their own.
Two of the kids cast in the film, 10 year old Azharuddin Ismail and 9 year old Rubina Ali who enacted the childhood roles of Salim and Lathika in the film live in the Garib Nagar slum in Eastern Bandra of Mumbai. With the children making the nation proud, the Maharastra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has announced gifting the two kids a flat each. This comes with the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board (MHADA) taking initiative to allot flats to the kids under its 2% discretionary quota of the CM. --MP
