Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho
Friday 22 January 2010

When did Kuttubuddin born ?

What minerals are discovered in the soil of Cambodia ?

What is the rate of rainfall in the Tundra region ?

One must be able to remember the answers of such questions in the academic books of education during school days. But does anybody remember a single instance where the answers of these questions have proved to be useful in day-to-day life ?.

Whatever that we learn; if we aren't able to ever get to implement it; then what's the use of such an education ?. That is what is happening at present. The education has lost its relevance with the real life. The whole course of education is nothing but an avalanche of 'Theory' and an examination means only a 'Hammer'. Therefore, two aspects call for an immediate change. First, one such curriculum is extremely necessary; that is useful in the real time commercial life and second, the system of examination must essentially evaluate the knowledge earned by a student so that those who are only masters of the art of mugging will never shine in the list of toppers. In India, small children today have to endure the compulsory 10 years' punishment of school education. One tends to glaringly recognise this after seeing a child depressed with the physical and psychological torture of everyday studies and the burden of his or her schoolbag. Noted films director, Mr. Mahesh Manjrekar, was motivated to handle this burning issue after considering the alarming count of more than 1600 school-going children having committed suicide during the short span of hardly three years from 2004 to 2007 and the product of this whole endeavour is the meaningful and content-rich Marathi feature film 'Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho'.

This film does not attempt to comment on the prevailing education system but only tries to highlight the faults in it. The 'Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho' film is produced by 'Satya Ashwami Films' and 'Everest Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.' after the spellbinding success of 'Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Bolatoy'. Produced by Sanjay Chabria, Satya Manjrekar, and Ashwami Manjrekar, this film is being released across the Maharashtra state on 15th January.

The story of this film happens in the middle-class family of Mr. Madhukar Rane. Mr. Madhukar Narayan Rane, is just like any other father about whom the children feel scared. He always maintained a distance between academic studies and play activities. In his opinion, individuals like Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Mangeshkar, and M.F. Hussain are born only by 'luck'. The son of Mr. Rane, Shree, is an average school-going student. Although, in terms of intellect and academics, he is an ordinary student, he is born with a heavenly gift of brilliant skill in cricket. This virtue of Shree is never acceptable to his father who has always strived to curb it jubilantly like all other parents. Once, Shree collapses before the rising spree of academic expectations and finds oneself completely devastated. But what happens after that ?. It would be worthwhile to see it on screen; but all that you see happening on screen; undoubtedly; sends a shock wave through your spine and leaves your mind and rationale shaken for sure.

This film tries to address the unprecedented abyss between the real life needs of the children in our schools and the prevailing bookish education system that virtually kills their aspirations. The slowly blossoming story-screenplay has been written by noted director Mr. Mahesh Manjrekar and the dialogues are written by Mr. Deepak Kulkarni.

Bharat Jadhav, Saksham Kulkarni, Gauri Vaidya, Siddharth Jadhav, and Kranti Redkar have played fascinating roles in this film. For the first time, Bharat Jadhav, is playing the cast of a typical middle-class father and Saksham Kulkarni is playing the role of Shree. The songs are written by Nalesh Patil, Shreerang Godbole, and Guru Thakur while the music has been composed by distinguished musicians Ajay-Atul and the songs are sung by Shivam Kale, Chinmay, Rohan, and Shivangi Kale. Mr. Ajit Reddy and Mr. Sarvesh Parab have shouldered the responsibility of the photography and editing of this film respectively.

Every student is bright in one or the other art or skill. But hardly anybody is willing to peep at the opportunities available beyond the iron frames of the prevailing education system. However, a time has come now to question everybody responsible for the tragedy of children like Shree. 'Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho', is a content-rich and meaningful Marathi feature film that will provoke everybody to think and conclude that the education must not only restrict itself to being mere bookish but it should also prove to be an instrument rich with strength to shape the whole character of a student.
