HJS launches protest over `anti-Hindu acts`
Monday, April 23, 2007 | AY
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has launched an indefinite statewide protest along with the BJP and Shiv Sena to oppose the Maharashtra government's move to take control of temples and its attempt to eradicate faith. The Temple and Religious Organisations (administration and regulation) Act of 2006, proposed by the state government's 15th law commission in October 2006, excludes dargahs, masjids and madarsas falling under the jurisdiction of the WAQF board. According to the proposed act, 4,50,000 temples and religious trusts belonging to Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and Parsees will come under government control.
