Tuesday, August 9, 2005 | AY
Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh today alleged that Maharashtra is indulging in spreading false propaganda about floods stating that storage in Alamatti is the reason for the floods. Mr Singh said that the allegation that backwater build up in Maharashtra areas was because of higher reservoir level in Almatti Dam cannot be true at all. Karnataka has suffered more loss and damage due to excessive rains and huge release from Koyna, Warna, Dudganga, Ujjini and Veerbhatkal reservoirs. The areas which have been hit by floods in Maharashtra such as Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara are situated above the sea level and the Alamatti dam was below these areas, which made Singh ask how their dam water inundates Maharastra areas. Mr Singh alleged that with false propaganda, Maharashtra is trying to build up a false records to bolster its arguments before the second Krishna Tribunal which was set up recently.
